2024 Victory: NDC Foot soldiers deserve a trip to the World Cup

Former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to sponsor their loyal supporters to the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show monitored by MyNewsGh, Mr Awuku expressed his excitement over the Black Stars’ qualification for the global tournament while using the opportunity to urge the current government to show appreciation to its grassroots base.
“I’m genuinely happy that the Black Stars have qualified for the World Cup,” he said.
“But I also want to encourage the NDC government to reward their die-hard supporters by sponsoring them massively to attend the tournament,” rationalising that to their commitment to the party’s victory in the 2024 polls
Awuku explained that during the NPP administration, Ghana failed to qualify for the World Cup held in Russia, a situation he said denied him the opportunity to do something similar for his party’s supporters.
“When NPP was in power, Ghana didn’t qualify for the World Cup in Russia,” he recalled.
“Otherwise, I would have personally facilitated the trip for some of our dedicated supporters.”
He commended the NDC for its electoral victory and the efforts of grassroots members who, according to him, played a crucial role in securing the win.
“On the back of the NDC’s massive victory and the work of the foot soldiers who ‘activated body cams’ at the polling stations to protect the party’s votes, this is the time they have to be rewarded,” Awuku said.
While admitting his comment may stir controversy, Awuku stood by his position. “I know some people will find this statement controversial, but I stand by it,” he insisted.
