2025 BECE ends today with Arabic paper

The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially concludes today, Wednesday, June 18, with candidates sitting for the final paper—Arabic (Essay & Objective).

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of this year’s nationwide exams, describing the process as smooth and largely successful, despite a few logistical setbacks.

Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday, June 17, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, commended the Council and its stakeholders for their collective efforts in delivering a well-organised examination.

“I will say that on our part, we’ll pat ourselves on the back and say we did a good job,” Mr. Kapi remarked.

“Usually, after examinations, what you expect as an examining body is that every candidate is provided the opportunity to write—in terms of questions, in terms of stationery. All of these things reached the candidates.”

While acknowledging the overall success, Mr. Kapi admitted that there were a few isolated incidents, including the breakdown of a vehicle transporting exam papers and delivery delays to remote areas due to difficult terrain.

However, he noted that these challenges were swiftly addressed and did not affect the candidates’ ability to write their papers.

WAEC is now expected to begin the marking and results processing phase, with the release of results anticipated in the coming months.
