3 Things Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been preaching on his campaign trail

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has started his campaign tour across the country to solicit votes from the New Patriotic Party delegates ahead of January 31, 2026.
Although he has been to the Ashanti Region and the Eastern Region, visiting the Bono East Region and the Bono Regions has been marked as the start of his campaign tour.
Before the start of the campaign tour, his Communications Manager, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, urged all communicators to focus on an issues-based campaign.
Dubbed Our Journey Together, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign ahead of the 2026 presidential primaries focuses on bringing everyone on board his train as he seeks to unite the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and also transform Ghana if given the mandate in 2028.
The campaign trail is currently in the Bono Region, and here are some of the messages he is preaching to delegates:
What Is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Message?
- Unity
Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is preaching unity in the New Patriotic Party, which has seen some cracks since the party lost the 2024 elections. To him, the cracks have to be mended ahead of the 2028 elections, and that can be done if every party member buries their differences and helps come together to fight a common cause.
He is known to have told delegates that “Together we shall win in January, and together, we shall work to bring the ultimate victory to our great NPP”, an indication that he believes that unity can make things happen for the opposition political party.
2. Welfare
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been preaching about care for party folks. One of the major reasons why the New Patriotic Party lost the 2024 elections was due to neglect of the grassroots.
He has reiterated his commitment to establishing a comprehensive welfare system to ensure that the needs of party members are adequately addressed under his leadership.
“You need to understand people’s problems before you can help them, and I’ve taken my time to understand the issues facing the grassroots members of our party,” he said.
“The problems of our party members are not the same. Some need loans for their businesses, some need fertilisers for their farms, some need scholarships for their children, and others need medical attention.”
“I want to institute something called the Welfare Database System, with coordinators in all constituencies who will be in charge of managing the welfare database.”
“Every three months, we will review the database to assess who we have been able to help and who is still outstanding. This will help eliminate bottlenecks and delays in providing timely support to grassroots members who need urgent assistance.”
3. Ideas
The former Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections has been speaking on ideas that will help transform the country and even the political party. He has argued that bragging about personal achievements and belongings is not what the country needs. He says Ghana needs men with rich ideas who can help transform the country.
To him, instead of politics of insults, it is imperative that he sells what he can do for the party and the people of Ghana and that is what his focus has been on.
Addressing delegates in Bono region he is reported to have said “Ghanaians do not vote based on personal wealth but on the ideas a candidate offers. No one uses their own money to develop a country. You cannot ask people to look at your properties and vote for you.
“What truly matters are the ideas you present to the electorate—ideas that can transform lives and drive national development. It is not about money; it is about vision and ideas, and that is what I bring,” he said.
