34 Suspects, Including 6 Chiefs, Arraigned Over Ahwerase Shooting — Police Confirm

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arraigned thirty-four suspects, including six chiefs, following a violent incident at Ahwerase that left one person dead and three others injured during a ritual to lift the ban on noise making ahead of the Odwira Festival.
In an official statement dated October 23, 2025, Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, confirmed the development.
“The suspects were charged with rioting with offensive weapons and causing unlawful harm. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Aburi KOM Presbyterian Hospital, while the deceased’s body has been deposited for preservation and autopsy,” the statement read.
The police also disclosed that two weapons, a Umarex pistol (No. MP160407589) and a Cyborg Magnum Force Pump Action (No. 602-H25YT-516), were retrieved from the scene, along with four live and four spent cartridges.
Superintendent Tetteh assured the public of safety throughout the festival, saying, “We want to assure the general public that before, during, and after the festival, everything will be done to ensure that people go about their activities in peace and tranquility.”
He added that the area is currently calm and that police are closely monitoring the situation while investigations continue.
