5 expensive products that are totally overhyped

Let’s face it—sometimes we spend big bucks thinking we’re buying premium experiences, only to end up asking ourselves, “Wait… was that it?”

In a world where marketing is louder than a Shatta Wale rant and aesthetics are everything, some high-end products just don’t live up to the hype (or the hefty price tag).

Let’s spill the truth about five of them.

1. Designer water
From Bling H2O to Beverly Hills 9OH2O, luxury water brands have somehow convinced people to drop serious cash on… well, water. Unless the bottle comes with Beyoncé’s vocals or makes you speak French, regular bottled water or your good old filtered tap water will do just fine.

2. Apple’s polishing cloth
It’s literally a piece of cloth. But because it’s from Apple, people queued online to buy it. This tiny microfiber square doesn’t do anything your old sunglasses cloth can’t. But hey, it does come in sleek packaging!

3. Gold-covered foods
Gold-dusted doughnuts, gold-leaf steaks, and glittery cupcakes may look fancy on Instagram, but they taste exactly like their non-glittery counterparts. It’s all for the ‘gram—and your wallet pays the real price.

4. Designer logo T-shirts
Let’s be honest: when you pay hundreds of dollars for a plain tee with a small logo, you’re basically paying for the name. Some cost more than a month’s rent in Accra and yet still shrink in the wash. Meanwhile, a nice local brand or thrift find can get you compliments and lunch money left over.

5. Smart fridges
Do you really need a fridge that tells you what’s inside without opening it? Or one that suggests recipes while you’re binge-watching Netflix? Smart fridges are cool, but for most folks, they’re an overpriced kitchen flex with way too many buttons.
