Transport Minister confirms no change in transport fares despite fuel price reductions

Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has announced that transport fares will remain unchanged for the time being, despite recent reductions in fuel prices.
Speaking to the public amidst calls for a reduction in transport fares, particularly after previous threats by transport unions to increase fares during fuel price hikes, Mr. Nikpe clarified that the decision to adjust fares is determined through a structured process.
“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” the Minister explained.
Mr. Nikpe stressed that the Ministry is continuously engaging with stakeholders to ensure stability within the transport sector.
He assured commuters that for now, fare prices will remain steady, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining fairness and collaboration with operators and unions.
