Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma West district, says she opposes party members actively pushing to be Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate ahead of the December 7 presidential election.
She believes that the role of running mate should be earned through hard work rather than campaigned for.
“Is that a position you lobby or garner for? I am absolutely against any active seeking of any such position,” She said.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who appears uninterested in the post despite her name being mentioned among other candidates, said the flagbearer should not be compelled to choose a running companion.
“It is an appointed position, I think the flagbearer should be left and given the space to decide who he thinks can best partner him,” She noted in an interview with Citi FM.
Adding that: “People may speculate my name but I have not told anybody that I am interested in any position. If the flagbearer thinks I can assist him in his wisdom, why not?
“No media person can ever say anywhere that I have contacted him to put my name out there or anybody for that matter. The flagbearer should be given the space to choose who he thinks can best partner him. It will be great if a female is chosen and I made this call eight years ago.”
