Water and Electricity Tariffs Increased

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission would like to notify water and electricity customers that the current rates have been reviewed and will be in force from July 1, 2024, to September 30, 2024.
These reviews have been conducted in accordance with the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which monitors and takes into account changes in important uncontrollable factors, such as the rate of inflation in the country, the mix of electricity generation sources, the price of fuel, primarily natural gas, and the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Ghana cedi.
The purpose of these assessments is to preserve the actual value of the tariffs, which keeps utility service providers solvent and enables them to supply their customers with services.

When conducting this study, the Commission also took into account Ghanaians’ overall living standards and the competitiveness of various industries. After taking into account all of the relevant variables, the Commission is pleased to declare that electricity rates will increase by 3.45% for lifeline customers (0–30 kWh); 5.84% for all other residential customers (31 kWh and above) and the non-residential category.
The cost of power will rise by 4.92% for the industrial category. For the period under review, there will be a 5.16% rise in water tariffs for all customer classes.
As it continues to implement these Quarterly Tariff Reviews to address the constantly evolving needs of the Utility Service Providers to enable them to carry out their efficient operations, the Commission is grateful to all stakeholders for their support and for holding them strictly to the Commission’s regulatory standards and benchmarks. This is accomplished by continuously observing Utility Service Provider activities to guarantee both excellent service delivery and value for money.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, signed a statement that included this information.
