Background

The Saglemi affordable housing project was launched by the John Mahama-led administration in 2012.

A $200 million loan was negotiated to build an initial 5,000 affordable housing units to be offered to people, but as of 2017, 1,506 homes had been erected but not finished.

The projects were halted once the NPP government assumed power, claiming legal issues.

The government has finally decided to complete the project, and in April this year, a request for proposal was issued, encouraging private sector participation.
