I spent the whole night to take a decision – Prof. Gyampo on his appointment as GSA Boss

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) Professor Ransford Gyampo has said it took him a while to make a decision on his appointment as GSA Boss.
In an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, the Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana noted that after spending close to 20 years at the University of Ghana, advocating for the interest of lecturers and building networks, news of his appointment came as a surprise to him.
“It was a pleasant surprise. I had to spend almost the whole night not sleeping, thinking because I have been in the University of Ghana for almost 20 years. I’ve had a lot of networks and lived with my colleagues and superiors, so many things that I do for my people.
“It was something that I had to think through,” he told host, Kemini Amanor on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
According to him, accepting his new role was a tough decision for him because he had to reflect on “how I’m going to leave the university temporarily, take up this and how I’m going to do so in a manner that will ensure that I don’t completely sever relationships with them but also don’t lose focus on what I’m supposed to do.”
Prof. Gyampo revealed that he had plans of vying for any of the top position in UTAG this year before his appointment came in.
“I’m sure that this year I would have vied for their top position. I have become so passionate about championing the course of people I work with,” he said.
He explained that he’s still in a transition process and have not fully exited his teaching role, as he’s still teaching students and cannot abruptly end his teaching.
To the many students and lecturers who may be heartbroken about Prof. Gyampo’s new appointment, he assured that “at the appropriate time, I will speak to my people…I would always be with them physically and in spirit regardless of where I find myself.”
