Group urges delegates to reject NPP affiliates in Council of State elections

A pressure group in the Volta region, the New Voter Forum (NVF) has called on delegates to reject any candidate affiliated to the opposition New Patriotic Party in the upcoming Council of State election.

The election which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025 has thirteen candidates who filed from the Volta region.

But addressing the press in Ho on Thursday, the New Voter Forum revealed that some individuals contesting the election are persons affiliated with the opposition party who they deem as detractors who do not have the development of the region at heart.

The group believes such individuals are not aligned to President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting Ghana and must not be allowed to be part of the Council of State.

“…the upcoming Council of State election goes to the heart of Volta region’s development and it is important to remind Volta delegates not to vote any candidate being sponsored by the NPP, a political party who doesn’t prioritize the development of the Volta region,” the group said during a press conference addressed by its convenor, Conquerer Mawudzo Korto.

The group accused the New Patriotic Party of persistent neglect of the region and indicated that anyone known to be an affiliate of the party must be made to pay for the purported neglect.

“Today, we have come together to shed light on the NPP’s continued ploy to keep the Volta region underdeveloped for their selfish political gains. As you may be aware, the NPP over the years have smartly and deceitfully sponsored one of their members to the Council of State and have kept the Volta region’s development under the carpet.”

The group believes the Volta region only receives development when the NDC is in government and wants delegates to vote for a person who can offer true representation for the region on the Council.

In the Volta region, thirty-six (36) delegates -two from each of the Municipal and District Assemblies are expected to gather in Ho for the elections on Tuesday.

The candidates include Mr Tanko Gabriel Kwamega Atople, Dr David Kofi Wuaku, Torgbuiga Adama III, Mr Felix Lartey, Mr Gibrilla Buhari, Togbi Kpemini Gawu, Mr Azi Ganyo, Mr Havi Delasi Justice, Mr Godwin Yayra Nkuawu, Mr Amegashie Godisgood, Rev. Cephas Kodzo Dzidzienyo.
