Let’s keep our eyes on the ball – Regional Minister tells Naval Command staff to ensure security

Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has acknowledged the critical role that the Naval Command plays in protecting Ghana’s territorial waters as part of their traditional duties.
He said the role of the Command requires that they work to protect businesses and social activities connected to the sea and the country’s territorial water bodies.
The Minister was addressing the Western Naval Command as part of his familiarisation tour of the various security commands in the region on Tuesday 18th February 2025.
According to Joseph Nelson, the economic survival of Ghanaians in the country obviously hinges on security and the social protection being provided by government.
He said the Western Naval Command has consistently carried out its mandate in such a way that all Ghanaians could have freedom and the assurance to go about with their daily activities without fear or anxiety.
The Regional Minister acknowledged challenges confronting the Command as outlined by the leadership and promised to work closely with them to resolve these issues.
“Despite the challenges, I know you are up to the task, so let’s keep our eyes on the ball and continue to maintain security,” he urged.
He said maintaining security in the country would afford citizens an opportunity to have peace and tranquility.
“While you ensure security, the rest of us (citizens) can afford to have our peace,” he said.
The Minister, while commanding personnel of the Command said there were other significant areas of security that ought to be tackled and ought to be discussed behind closed doors.
He told leadership of the Command to work assiduously to contribute to the progress of the region.
As Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Mr Nelson assured the Command of his commitment to honour all invitations extended to his office.
