Nigerian traders in Kejetia hit the streets over death of colleague

A tragic incident unfolded in the bustling streets of Kejetia, Kumasi, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, when a Nigerian trader, popularly known as Loverboy, was fatally stabbed during a heated altercation with another trader.

The incident, which occurred around 11:00am, has left the community in shock and sparked outrage among Nigerian traders in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, a minor disagreement between the deceased and assailant soon escalated in a physical exchange resulting in stabbing.

The attacker is said to have immediately left the scene after the stabbing. Upon arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead.

Some Nigerian traders took to the streets to demand justice on Friday, February 21.

Loverboy, whose real name is still unknown, was a well-known figure among the Nigerian community in Kejetia. He had traveled from Nigeria to Ghana to work on the streets of Kumasi, a hub for traders and street vendors.

His unfortunate passing left many in mourning, with friends and colleagues describing him as hardworking and amiable.

The suspect is currently at large. But the Ashanti Regional Police Command has hinted at its resolve to fish out the assailant and make him face the full rigors of the law.

The Police are therefore entreating the public to assist with vital information that will lead to his arrest.
