We record over 100 prank fire distress calls within 24 hours – Ashanti GNFS Commander

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ACFOII Peter Tetteh, has disclosed that his outfit receives more than 100 prank fire distress calls within 24 hours.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, ACFOII Tetteh Expressed worry about the negative impact of such false alarms.

He was of the view that these pranks lead to unnecessary fuel wastage and could potentially deprive individuals in genuine distress of critical emergency response.

He kicked against claims by some residents that firefighters often arrive at fire scenes without water in their tenders.

“It is not true that our tenders don’t have water. How can we arrive at a fire scene without water and then leave? People should stop making such claims,” he stated.

He appealed to the residents to support and motivate the Fire Service personnel, stressing that fire prevention is a collective responsibility.

“We are your friends. Fire prevention is a shared responsibility,” he said.
