Dampare’s removal: Mahama needed someone who is loyal to him

Joyce Bawa Mogtari has defended the decision by government to remove George Akuffo Dampare as the Inspector General of Police.

On March 13, 2025 the government through a statement announced that Christian Tetteh Yohuno had been appointed IGP.

The statement said he is expected to modernize policing in the country.

Prior to his appointment, some CSOs had gone to court to seek injunction to prevent the president from removing head of the various security agencies.

Reacting to the move by the CSOs, Joyce Bawa indicated that the president needed someone who was loyal to him especially because it bothers on security issues.

“They sat aloof and watched askance as our country was mismanaged, and looked on as former President Akufo Addo made reckless financial decisions and just as many frivolous appointments. Now they run to the Supreme Court to stop President Mahama from sacking IGP Dampare.

Indeed it is trite learning that Leaders have to appoint persons loyal to them, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the country.”
