Some assume ‘Research Department’ means money for the presidency – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications and Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has refuted claims that the presidency has earmarked $15 million for research.

Speaking on State of Affairs with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, he clarified that the Research Department is Ghana’s external intelligence agency, operating alongside its domestic counterpart, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

However, he expressed concern over public misconceptions about its role.

“The Research Department is our external intelligence agency. Their domestic counterparts are the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

“Yet, there are people in this country who see ‘Research Department’ and assume it is money for research at the presidency,” he explained.

Kwakye Ofosu further addressed concerns about government spending, highlighting the contrast between different administrations in managing appointments.

He pointed out that reducing the number of political appointees directly impacts salary expenditure.

“If you have 336 appointees and another administration reduces them to 30, then obviously the amount of money spent on salaries will reduce,” he stated.
