55-year-old ex-convict remanded for defiling 13-year-old boy

Abdul Razak, 55, an ex-convict, has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly engaging in anal sex with a 13-year-old boy.

Razak, also known as Nii Atofotse, faces additional charges of threatening death and stealing, all of which he denied.

Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the court, presided over by Ms. Enid Marful-Sau, that the complainant is a trader and the victim’s guardian, a Junior High School student.

Razak resides in Manhean, while the complainant and the victim’s parents are neighbors in Accra.

On January 7, 2025, around 1300 hours, the victim was sent to deliver a laptop computer and a charger to his brother.

At home, the complainant received a call from the suspect, who claimed the boy had damaged a vehicle. The caller allegedly demanded GH¢500.00, warning that if the money wasn’t paid, the issue would be reported to the Adabraka Police Station.

Concerned for her son, the complainant was directed to go to the police station to assist him. She followed the instructions, but upon arrival, the victim was nowhere to be found.

Perplexed, the complainant returned home and searched the surrounding area, hoping to locate her son or the caller. Despite her efforts, both remained missing.

Later that day, the victim returned home. When questioned by his mother, he disclosed that Razak had confronted him on his way back after delivering the laptop and charger.

As per the prosecution, Razak inquired whether the charger the boy was carrying was for a phone. The victim clarified, “It’s a laptop charger.”

Razak then brandished a knife, coercing the victim into an uncompleted building at Odumase. Once there, he demanded the phone number of the victim’s parents.

Using the phone number he obtained, Razak contacted the victim’s father and demanded a payment of GH¢500.00.

Brandishing the knife, Razak intimidated the victim, coercing him to falsely admit to his father, “I damaged your car.”

He then ordered the victim to perform oral sex on him.

The prosecution further stated that after becoming erect, Razak sat on a cement block in the uncompleted building and commanded the victim to sit on his manhood.

When the victim attempted to have anal sex with him, he was unable to penetrate.

Razak then made the victim bend over and inserted his finger in the boy’s anus for some time before forcing his manhood into the victim’s rear to engage in anal sex.

After the act, Razak took the laptop charger from the victim, searched his pockets, and stole GH¢50.00.

The prosecution also reported that Razak threatened the victim, saying there were three marks on his arm and that if the victim informed anyone about the incident, the marks would reveal it to him, and he would come after the victim to kill him.

Later, the court heard that Razak took the victim to a nearby provision store, where he bought a drink and sachet water for him before leaving.

The prosecution stated that on March 5, 2025, Razak was spotted near the victim’s school.

The victim raised the alarm, leading to Razak’s arrest. The complainant was promptly informed.

The court was told that during investigations at the Amasaman Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Razak was found to have been involved in a similar crime in March 2017.

He was freed from Nsawam Prison in November 2024.

The prosecution stated that a Police medical report form was issued to the complainant to facilitate the victim’s hospital examination, treatment, and subsequent report.

On March 7, 2025, the endorsed medical report form was submitted by the complainant.

Following this, the accused was cautioned and later arraigned after thorough investigations.
