Odumase Police probing fatal crash involving two volleyball players

The Odumase Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young men, who were crushed by a limestone tipper truck on the Oterkporlu-Odumase road.
The deceased, Wisdom Gbli Horla, a 24-year-old final-year Computer Science student at the University of Ghana, and his cousin, Benedict Gbli, were both members of the Blockbusters Volleyball Team based in Asesewa, Eastern Region.
According to reports, the two cousins, who were en route to Odumase for a volleyball match, chose to ride their motorcycle instead of joining the team bus arranged for the players.
The fatal incident occurred at Ayemersu, when the duo attempted to overtake a pickup truck ahead of them but veered into the path of an oncoming tipper truck loaded with limestone and descending from the Odugblase mines.
Due to the heavy load and the winding nature of the road, the driver of the tipper truck, with registration number GS 521-23, was unable to avoid the collision, resulting in the instant death of both riders.
Officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Odumase Police Command quickly responded to the scene, managing traffic flow and assisting in conveying the bodies to the St. Martin de Porres Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
