Sam George justifies staff dismissals at Communications Ministry

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has defended the dismissal of several staff members from his ministry, describing the move as essential to sanitise the institution and prevent corruption.

Addressing a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Minister explained that the decision aligns with broader governance reforms aimed at boosting efficiency and transparency in public institutions.

According to him, the ministry secured clearance from the World Bank to commence a fresh recruitment process to replace the dismissed employees. He assured that the new hiring would follow rigorous due diligence, ensuring only candidates with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity are selected.

“When I took office, I took decisive action, in consultation with the World Bank office in Accra, to terminate the contract of 13 staff under the project implementation unit of the World Bank-funded Ghana Digital Acceleration Programme,” Sam George revealed.

“This became necessary to show our zero tolerance for any semblance of graft or corruption in the ministry. This termination was a patriotic action to save the state from any representation that affects our international image,” he added.

The minister’s remarks underscore the government’s ongoing commitment to reinforcing accountability across public offices.
