It’s our turn – NDC members say as they take over Protected Forest Reserves to mine illegally

A leading voice in the fight against illegal mining in Ghana, Erastus Asare has expressed his disgust at the decision of some members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to take over protected forest reserves.

What’s worrying to him is the fact that they claim it is their turn to rip the nation of its mineral resources.

In a Facebook post exposing the illegal mining activities, he said “The President CANNOT WATCH ON for this to happen!! Constantly I have notified the right authorities, including the sector ministry but VERY LITTLE URGENCY is attached to it.

How can PARTY people LAY CLAIM over illegality in a such a brazen manner across the country and leaders watch on?

Galamsey is being done in PROTECTED FOREST RESERVES, in such brazen manner by known party people who feel entitled because they claim ITS THEIR TURN!!

The more we notify authorities, very little is done. These images show current mining in the Tano Nimri forest reserve and the extreme pollution of the Tano River.

How does we allow people with connections to illegally enter our protected forests and degrade it and steal the resources leaving degraded lands for citizens to pay for.

Why is it difficult for authorities to end this nature crime? The only answer that makes sense is that it involves people close to them”.
