Ghana targets one million tech talents in new digital training initiative

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the One Million Coders Programme, a bold national digital skills initiative aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with in-demand technology skills over the next four years.
The programme, which was unveiled on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, is a key component of the government’s broader Reset Ghana agenda and is expected to train individuals in areas such as coding, cybersecurity, data analytics, and other digital competencies critical to the modern workforce.
“This is not just a fulfilled campaign promise. It is a deliberate move towards building a knowledge-based economy where our people can create solutions, find jobs, and compete globally,” President Mahama said at the launch, signaling the administration’s commitment to shifting the country toward long-term innovation and tech-led development.
He emphasized the transformative nature of the initiative, pointing out that Ghana must move beyond merely consuming imported technologies. “We are not just training our youth. We are changing the national story from being users of imported technology to creators of our own,” he added.
The One Million Coders Programme is expected to create opportunities for young people, professionals, and even public servants to acquire digital skills that can enhance productivity, fuel entrepreneurship, and make Ghana more competitive in the global digital economy.
