Illegal mining is a legacy challenge Mahama is dealing with

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzi Tamakloe, has expressed his optimism in the fight waged against illegal mining.
He says the president is committed to the legacy challenge left for him and will fight it until he wins the battle.
“The Forestry Commission always knew about the existence of the settlement. I am absolutely confident that President Mahama will fight this, galamsey was terrible for the past 8 years.”
Edudzi Tamakloe noted that he is aware the people of Ghana want more but assured them that more efforts will be put in place to arrest the menace.
Speaking on TV3’s Key Points, he said, “People want more, but I can tell you these people are not sleeping on the job.”
The galamsey issue has been on the forefront of political discussions since the NDC took over government.
There are reports suggesting that their members have taken over forest reserves and other water bodies to mine just because their government is now in power.
Several efforts have been made by government to nib the menace in the bud but it seems a herculean task considering the people involved.
