Don’t add this to your infamous achievements

Assin South MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, John Ntim Fordjour, has launched a sharp criticism of President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of endangering Ghana’s democracy through attempts to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo.
In a strongly worded statement shared on the social media platform X, Ntim Fordjour said, “Your palpable pursuit of removing the Chief Justice and replacing her with a politically-compliant one affronts key principles of good governance and is dangerous for the future of Ghana’s democracy.”
His remarks come amid rising tension surrounding the possible removal of the Chief Justice—a development that has attracted condemnation from civil society groups, legal practitioners, and opposition figures.
While acknowledging that President Mahama may not be the first head of state to make such a move, Ntim Fordjour warned of the long-term implications such a decision could have on the country’s constitutional integrity and judicial independence.
“Yes, you may not be the first President to go down in history as the President who removed his Chief Justice on grounds of personal dislike. Let’s not watch on for this to be added to the plethora of infamous achievements of the President. Let’s save our democracy,” he wrote.
The MP’s statement signals a broader concern within political and legal circles over what critics see as a creeping politicisation of the judiciary.
