Bawumia’s blame-shifting after NPP loss is shameful

Former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security under the Akufo-Addo administration, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has accused Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of trying to distance himself from the failures of the administration he served.

Speaking on Joy News, Dr. Boakye-Danquah said, “This selective distancing extends to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which caused widespread financial distress, including protests by pensioners. His attempt to shift blame for economic hardships…is particularly disloyal.”

His comments come in the wake of Dr. Bawumia’s recent public reflections during the NPP’s Thank You tour in Takoradi, where he openly acknowledged some of the party’s mistakes leading to its defeat in the December 7, 2024 elections.

“We refused to listen. The big issues that people complained about were; cost of living, arrogance of power, and the debt restructuring program,” Dr. Bawumia told party supporters. “The party suggested we reshuffle our ministerial portfolios. We never listened.

The party advised against the implementation of the e-levy, and the debt restructuring program. And yet we never listened.”

Bawumia’s rare admission laid bare the internal challenges that plagued the NPP during its time in government, with his comments highlighting how a failure to heed advice from within contributed to the party’s loss.

Also speaking at the event, former Assin Central MP and ex-presidential aspirant, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, stressed the need for unity within the NPP.

Quoting scripture, he said, “A house that is divided against itself will not stand,” referencing Mark 3:25 and Matthew 11:17-18 to underline his call for cohesion ahead of future elections.
