Bawumia is owning up, not running away — Nana Akomea fires back

A senior figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has come to the defense of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, rejecting claims that the party’s 2024 presidential candidate is attempting to distance himself from the NPP’s challenges ahead of the December elections.

“Dr. Bawumia did not shift blame, as suggested by Palgrave Boakye-Danquah,” Nana Akomea stated emphatically.

His defense comes in response to criticism from Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security under the Akufo-Addo administration. Dr. Boakye-Danquah, speaking on Joy News, accused Dr. Bawumia of trying to separate himself from the failures of the administration he served.

“This selective distancing extends to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which caused widespread financial distress, including protests by pensioners. His attempt to shift blame for economic hardships…is particularly disloyal,” Dr. Boakye-Danquah asserted.

However, Nana Akomea firmly dismissed these accusations, insisting that Dr. Bawumia has been transparent about the challenges the party has faced.

“In fact, he publicly acknowledged these issues, apologized to party supporters, and expressed his commitment to addressing them. His words were met with resounding applause from the party’s grassroots, who appreciated his sincerity,” he said.

Emphasizing the way forward for the party, Nana Akomea stressed the need for genuine efforts to reconnect with their base.
“The NPP must continue to rebuild trust with its grassroots by acknowledging past mistakes and working sincerely to restore confidence. Dr. Bawumia’s message of unity and accountability is exactly what the party needs,” he added.
