How Ghanaian footballers performed across European leagues over the weekend

It was another exciting weekend for Ghanaian footballers playing across Europe and beyond.

In the Premier League, Antoine Semenyo scored for Bournemouth in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium. Semenyo has been impressive for the Cherries this season, and surpassed Ghana legend Michael Essien on the list of top Ghanaian scores in EPL history.

Mohammed Kudus also found the net for West Ham, although they lost 3-2 away to Brighton. This marked his first league goal since he last scored against the same opponent on December 21, 2024.

Over in France, Gideon Mensah featured for the full 90 minutes as Auxerre hammered Lens 4-0. He was instrumental in defense as Auxerre held their 10th position in the French Ligue 1. He gets into this week’s team for his impressive defensive display.

In Albania, Bismark Charles scored for Skenderbeu, but his side lost 2-1 to Bylis in the Abissnet Superiore. Charles is fast becoming one of the stars to look forward to.

In Austria, Ghanaian pair Emmanuel Agyeman and David Abagna helped Wolfsberger AC secure a 2-1 win over Salzburg. Emmanuel Baidoo was also in action for Salzburg. Abagna replaced his Ghanaian counterpart, who provided an assist, in the 70th minute.

Moving to Azerbaijan, Emmanuel Addai played 85 minutes for Qarabag in their 1-1 draw with Sabah Baku. Addai was superb on the ball, keeping a 94% passing rate and finding his teammates with long balls successfully on four occasions.

In Belgium, Francis Abu and Lawrence Agyekum both played in Cercle Brugge’s 3-1 win over St. Truiden. The duo showed glimpses of brilliance and get into this week’s squad for their dominant display to help their team secure victory.

Christopher Bonsu-Baah featured for Genk, but they lost 1-0 to Antwerp, captained by fellow Ghanaian Denis Odoi. Bonsu-Baah is fast become an attacking option for the senior team, and Odoi albeit absent from the national team in recent times could do a lot for the right-back position with such displays.

Other top performing Ghana stars

In Greece, Abdul Baba Rahman played the whole game for PAOK as they defeated Panathinaikos 2-1. Rahman has not been opened to joining the Black Stars in recent times, but he’s been consistent and with such performances like the one over the weekend, he could battle Gideon Mensah for the left-back position.

In Serbia, Ebenezer Annan enjoyed 90 minutes of action as Crvena Zvezda beat OFK Beograd 5-2. Annan’s impressive display could not be overlooked.

In Slovakia, Ivan Mensah scored for Banska Bystrica in their 2-2 draw against Trencin. Mensah is also one to keep an eye on.

In Sweden, Terry Yegbe played a full match for Elfsborg but they lost 2-0 to AIK. Kojo Peprah helped Norrkoping to a 3-1 win over Varnamo. In Switzerland, Jonas Adjei Adjetey featured for Basel, helping them beat Lausanne 3-2 in the Swiss Cup semi-finals.

Yegbe despite his side losing won all four aerial duels he contested, and appeared comfortable playing as a left center-back in a three-back system. Adjetey also made seven clearance in 120 minutes.

Lastly in Turkey, Emmanuel Boateng provided an assist for Gaziantep in their 3-1 defeat to Fenerbahce, while Joseph Attamah impressed for Kayserispor in a 1-0 victory over Rizespor.
