Osinachi Nwachukwu Husband: Meet Peter Nwachukwu

The untimely death of late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, in April 2022 brought a countrywide outrage in Nigeria.

Her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, was accused of subjecting her to domestic violence that caused her death.

Investigations revealed years of reported abuse whereby Osinachi had suffered in silence due to societal and religious pressures.

In October 2022, Peter was indicted on 23 counts of culpable homicide and domestic violence.

On July 12, 2024, Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the Federal Capital Territory High Court found Peter guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging in a landmark ruling.

The judgment was hailed by activists as a significant step towards addressing gender-based violence in Nigeria.

The case highlighted the pervasive issue of domestic abuse, particularly in conservative environments where victims often endure suffering silently.

Osinachi’s death and the subsequent trial amplified calls for stricter laws and better support systems for abuse survivors.

Her legacy continues to inspire advocacy against domestic violence in Nigeria and beyond.
