CDS meets Generals to announce exits in line with military regulations

Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, met with all Two-Star Generals of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Burma Camp on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The meeting was to acknowledge their service and inform them of upcoming changes in the command structure.

Major General Agyapong thanked the Generals for their professionalism and service to the country. He also conveyed the appreciation of the President and Commander-in-Chief for their contributions to the GAF.

He stated that, in line with GAF regulations and for improved command and control, many of the Generals present would be released from active service. He emphasized that this process followed standard military procedures.

Major General Irvine Aryeetey, Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies, responded on behalf of the Generals.

He said such leadership transitions were not unusual in the GAF. He cited past changes where the outgoing and incoming CDS came from different intakes, noting that the current shift was consistent with that pattern.

He also appreciated the CDS for formally inviting them to communicate the changes and recognize their service, describing it as a thoughtful move.

The meeting ended with a luncheon at the CDS’s office. Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters were also present.
