Applicants given 90 days to complete old applications

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the public that it is working expeditiously to ensure a seamless transition from the old biometric passport to the newly introduced chip-embedded passport system.

The transition officially took effect on April 28, 2025.

In a statement issued today, the ministry revealed that around 30,000 applications remain in the old system, with 7,900 of those being paid but incomplete.

Applicants with such incomplete submissions are assured that they will not be required to pay again in order to complete their applications.

These applicants are encouraged to visit the updated online platform at passport.mfa.gov.gh and follow the provided prompts to finish the application process.

The ministry has made it clear that all pending applications started on the previous system must be completed within 90 days.

Applicants who had already booked appointments using the old system are advised to go to their designated Passport Application Centres (PACs) on the scheduled dates for their biometric data to be captured.

For those who missed their appointments on April 28 and 29, the ministry advises visiting the respective PACs for further processing of their applications.

Members of the public who have enquiries are encouraged to contact the ministry’s 24-hour hotline at 0302-754-200 for clarification and assistance.

The move to chip-embedded passports is aimed at boosting document security and aligning Ghana with international travel documentation standards.
