High Court slaps Adu-Boahene, wife with 11 charges in GH¢49m fraud case

The High Court has slapped former Director of the Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, and two others with a total of 11 criminal charges in a GH¢49 million procurement scandal.

The charges—filed by the Attorney-General’s Office—include stealing, conspiracy to steal, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and using public office for private gain.

The offenses are alleged to have occurred between February and March 2020.

Adu-Boahene is accused of dishonestly appropriating approximately GH¢49.1 million under the false pretense of procuring a cyber defense system for the Republic of Ghana.

Prosecutors say no such system was delivered, and the funds were instead misused.

His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, faces charges of conspiracy to steal and collaborating in the abuse of public office for profit.

Also charged are Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited.

They are accused of conspiring to commit money laundering and assisting in channeling stolen state funds through Advantage Solutions’ accounts, which were then allegedly used for personal investments.

According to the prosecution, Adu-Boahene used his influential public role to divert state resources for private enrichment in what is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile corruption cases in recent years.

The case has drawn public attention, with observers anticipating how the judiciary will handle allegations of corruption within the country’s intelligence infrastructure.

Court proceedings are set to continue in the coming weeks.
