Adu-Boahen remanded for 7 days as court probes alleged interference in trial

The former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, has been remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven days by a High Court in Accra.
The court’s decision on Friday, May 2, 2025, follows a request from the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, who alleged that Adu-Boahen had attempted to interfere with a key prosecution witness in his ongoing criminal trial involving alleged theft and abuse of public office.
Defence lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea challenged the basis of the claim, questioning the credibility of the intelligence and dismissing suggestions that his client had the capacity to influence the proceedings.
Presiding judge Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante initially deferred ruling to review the intelligence report in-camera.
After assessing the materials, he ordered Adu-Boahen’s remand for one week to allow the state to complete its preparation of witness statements, citing the need to balance due process with the protection of the trial’s integrity.
Meanwhile, two other accused persons in the case — Adu-Boahen’s wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, and a former bank relations officer, Mildred Donkor — were granted bail.
Dr. Ayine also told the court that Adu-Boahen is under separate investigation involving matters at Ghana Water Limited, raising the possibility of further legal action in the near future.
