Three arrested in Savelugu for alleged weapon smuggling

Three men have been arrested in Savelugu in the Northern Region for their alleged involvement in weapon smuggling, following an intelligence-led operation by the Northern Regional Police Command.

The suspects, identified as Gaba Abdallah Alhassan, Alhassan Abdallah, and Alhassan Abdul Kudus, were apprehended on May 1, 2025, at their respective hideouts.

According to police sources, the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts.

A cache of weapons was retrieved during the operation, including one AK-47 rifle, one submachine gun (SMG), a Smith & Wesson SD40 VE pistol, and a single-barrel gun.

Additionally, police recovered two magazines, fifteen rounds of AK-47 ammunition, thirteen rounds of pistol ammunition, twenty-seven rounds of other ammunition, and five BB cartridges.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries. Authorities say they will be processed and charged in accordance with the law.

The police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal arms trafficking and ensuring public safety, particularly in areas prone to conflict and unrest.
