Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has strongly criticised the state of Ghana’s justice system, declaring that the country’s Constitution is effectively non-functional.
Speaking during the Save the Judiciary demonstration, today May 5, 2025, Amoah warned of a growing breakdown in law and order, citing increasing political interference and a lack of accountability in key justice institutions.
“The Constitution is no longer working,” he asserted. “If you live in a country where the police, lawyers, and courts are not functioning, then you are unprotected.”
In an emotionally charged address, Amoah urged market women and other vulnerable groups to be cautious, emphasizing the risks they face under a justice system he believes has collapsed.
“Our mothers, rush home immediately after selling in the market. If anything happens to you, there is effectively no law to protect you,” he said.
“When your child is defiled in the future, you’ll be finished if you don’t have money. We live in a country where if you are robbed, you cannot speak out.”
He further claimed that individuals who uphold justice are being punished for doing so, stating, “Those who are supposed to ensure justice are the ones being suspended. They are facing reproach from this government.”
The Save the Judiciary protest was organized amid growing concerns about perceived political interference in the judiciary, particularly following recent developments involving the Chief Justice.
