Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam takes over as CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), with his tenure officially beginning on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

He takes over from Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, whose term ended in October 2024. In the interim, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, the Director of Medical Affairs, held the position in an acting capacity.

With over two decades of service at KBTH, Dr. Adam is a seasoned medical professional who joined the hospital in 2003 as a Consultant Eye Surgeon.

He specializes in glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgery, and has contributed extensively to both patient care and clinical research.

Since 2017, he has served as the Head of the Lions International Eye Centre, where he played a pivotal role in elevating the centre to a leading position in eye care within the West African subregion.

A Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons, Dr. Adam is also affiliated with the Ophthalmological Society of Ghana, the Turkish Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

He has authored numerous publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals locally and internationally.

In his new role, Dr. Adam is expected to drive the hospital’s strategic agenda, which includes advancing medical research, improving healthcare delivery, and expanding training for medical professionals.

His appointment is seen as a key step in supporting the hospital’s Legacy Project — a long-term initiative aimed at transforming Ghana’s premier referral facility into a center of excellence.

Speaking after his appointment, Dr. Adam said, “Together, we can build a better Korle Bu,” highlighting his vision for a collaborative and progressive leadership approach.
