In Cape Coast, we cannot point to factories like in Accra or Kumasi – MCE laments

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Mr. George Justice Arthur, has expressed concern over the absence of factories and industries in the city, describing it as one of the major challenges facing the ancient capital.
In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM, Mr. Arthur compared Cape Coast to other major cities like Accra, Tema, and Kumasi, which are home to several manufacturing companies producing goods such as biscuits, cement, and beverages.
He noted that Cape Coast lacks similar industrial capacity to provide employment opportunities for its growing youth population.
“One of the biggest problems that I’m confronted with as I assumed office as Chief Executive of Cape Coast Assembly is the lack of industries to employ the youth,” he stated.
“In Cape Coast, we cannot point our finger to factories that produce products like biscuits, cement and others like we have in Accra, Tema and Kumasi.”
He went on to share his disappointment over the reported fate of Amin Sangari, once a soap-producing company and one of the few industrial establishments in the area.
“I recently heard that the only company in Cape Coast which has collapsed, Amin Sangari, a soap-producing factory, is about to be converted to a church—and they’re joking,” he said in frustration.
