Resolve Ablekuma North collation impasse now – IGP to EC

Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediately provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a formal roadmap to conclude the long-pending collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Addressing the press on Monday, Dr. Yohuno expressed concern over the delay, cautioning that the lingering uncertainty around the collation process threatens more than just the outcome of a single constituency.

“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation,” he stated, underscoring the need for swift action to preserve public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.

Describing the situation as “a pivotal moment,” the IGP emphasised that the handling of the collation process in Ablekuma North could influence national sentiment and the credibility of future elections.

“The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election, but also for public confidence in the years to come,” he said.

Dr. Yohuno appealed to all stakeholders, particularly the Electoral Commission, to not only ensure the physical security of election materials but also protect the integrity of the democratic process itself.

“Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy,” he concluded.
