GIMPA lecturer calls for Jinapor’s dismissal over dumsor

Dr. Nyame-Baafi, a Senior Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Energy, Resources and Public Policy (IERPP), has made a strong call for the dismissal of Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor, citing what he describes as the minister’s poor handling of the energy sector since the new government took office.

In an interview with Asaase Radio, Dr. Nyame-Baafi did not mince words, stating, “The energy sector is in crisis, and the figures are clear. John Jinapor must be fired if the president is truly committed to resetting this government’s course.”

His comments come as the administration of President John Dramani Mahama marks 120 days in office following its return to power.

According to the academic, the government’s promise of reviving the energy sector and steering Ghana through a green transition has so far failed to inspire confidence, with challenges persisting in energy reliability, affordability, and reform delivery.

“Leadership means taking tough decisions. If the president wants to demonstrate that he is serious about resetting governance, the first step is to change the team leading our energy transition,” he emphasized, making a direct appeal to President Mahama to reconsider those at the helm of one of Ghana’s most critical sectors.

The critique adds to mounting scrutiny of the government’s early performance, particularly in sectors where citizens had high expectations of reform and relief.
