Where are the ECG containers? – NPP Communicator Calls Out Energy Minister

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Eric Debie is intensifying pressure on Energy Minister John Jinapor, calling for his arrest over the unresolved issue of missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Debie, speaking on Wontumi TV, expressed dismay at what he described as a lack of accountability and transparency from the Minister, who had earlier promised to retrieve the containers within a month.

“It’s been over a month and there’s still no sign of the containers. We’ve heard different accounts from National Security, Ports and Harbours, and the Minister himself. Which one should we believe?” he questioned.

The NPP communicator didn’t stop there. He also took issue with the recent 14% tariff hike, which Jinapor attributed to conditions under Ghana’s current IMF program.

According to Debie, this reasoning is weak, especially considering the Nana Addo-led administration’s ability to renegotiate parts of the previous IMF deal to create employment opportunities between 2016 and 2020. “Why can’t the NDC do the same to ease the burden on Ghanaians?” he asked.

Debie further pointed to worsening power supply issues as proof of government failure in the energy sector.

He cited ongoing outages in Sunyani, where parts of the municipality have reportedly been without power for two days, as evidence that the country is once again in the grips of “dumsor.”

“This is more than just a technical challenge; it’s a clear indication that dumsor is actually back,” he told host Agyenkwa Nana.
