Jinapor projects end of dumsor after May maintenance

Energy Minister John Jinapor has assured Ghanaians that the country’s current power supply challenges will see significant improvement by the end of May as major maintenance works continue across key power plants.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, the Minister provided insight into the government’s ongoing efforts to address the instability in the energy sector, stating that a careful maintenance schedule is being carried out to restore consistent power delivery.
“What I get is that within the month of May, there will be major maintenance, and in June, there will be minimal maintenance. So, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should be seeing a stable power supply, but we should be servicing these plants,” he stated.
Jinapor explained that many of the power plants currently undergoing repairs have operated beyond their optimal life cycles, making the servicing process not only urgent but necessary.
“These are plants that have gone far beyond their maximum operating hours. So, as a responsible government, we have to undertake the servicing,” he explained.
The Minister cautioned against delaying these critical maintenance activities, warning that doing so could damage the plants and worsen the situation.
“What I have realised is that if you hold them back for too long, you will compromise the integrity of the plant. So I want to appeal to Ghanaians that as we take this step, we will do everything within our power to reduce the impact, it is a necessary step,” he added.
The government maintains that the disruptions are temporary and tied to ongoing technical interventions meant to secure long-term energy stability.
