Maurice Ampaw demands probe into Sammy Gyamfi’s wealth, calls for account freeze

Outspoken legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has urged security agencies to take immediate steps to freeze the bank accounts of Sammy Gyamfi and investigate the source of his wealth, following the emergence of a controversial video showing the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board handing over bundles of crisp dollar notes to self-styled prophetess Patricia Oduro Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa.
According to Ampaw, Gyamfi’s financial dealings raise serious red flags, especially given his claim that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) official has no traceable professional employment history. He insists the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Ghana Police Service must step in to audit Gyamfi’s lifestyle and financial statements.
“Legally, this is a behaviour that needs to be checked. We need to explain the unexplained wealth of Sammy Gyamfi,” Ampaw said during an appearance on Wontumi TV.
He continued, “FIU of the police service should call him and audit his lifestyle. How much is he being paid? His account ought to be frozen.”
The seasoned lawyer argued that Gyamfi has never worked at any law chamber and questioned how someone with what he described as a limited professional background could afford to distribute foreign currency so freely.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi has broken his silence following widespread backlash over a viral video that captured him handing out bundles of dollar notes to controversial religious personality, Nana Agradaa.
The footage, which has sparked a firestorm of criticism particularly within the NDC and among Ghanaian social media users, was interpreted by many as unbecoming of a public official known for his outspokenness on integrity and accountability.
Addressing the controversy in a statement shared on Facebook on Sunday, May 12, Sammy Gyamfi clarified his intentions, stating that the act was purely a personal gesture of goodwill.
“Folks, I have taken notice of the wave of criticisms against my person in the last 24 hours,” he began. “To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need.”
