NPP appointees spent $50K on women, why attack him? Owusu Bempah defends Sammy Gyamfi

In the face of public criticism over a cash gift from Sammy Gyamfi to evangelist Agradaa, Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah, Deputy National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has come out strongly in defense of the embattled Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.

Speaking during an interview on NET2 TV, a pro-NPP media outlet, Owusu Bempah dismissed the outrage surrounding Gyamfi’s alleged $10,000 gift as both misplaced and hypocritical.

“We know people in the NPP who spray $50,000 on ladies behind the scenes. He who comes with equity must come with clean hands. The noise about Sammy Gyamfi’s gift is dead on arrival. No one has the moral right to criticize him over this matter,” Bempah argued.

The outspoken communicator further challenged critics to present evidence if they believe any wrongdoing has occurred.

“If anyone has evidence that he has stolen money, they should bring it forward for the Special Prosecutor to take it up. How much is $10,000 that Sammy Gyamfi can’t afford?” he questioned.

He continued by emphasizing that there would be legitimate cause for concern only if financial discrepancies were tied directly to official funds.

“If, for instance, there were €50,000 missing from the GoldBod account and he was seen distributing cash, that would be a legitimate cause for concern. But in the absence of that…”

Owusu Bempah’s comments come at a time when the Minority and other political observers have raised questions about Gyamfi’s decision to give what is reported to be a substantial sum of money to Agradaa, especially in the current economic climate. But to Bempah, the criticism holds no moral water.

“There’s nothing wrong with what he did,” he stated.
