Skill Meets Creativity at ODASCO’s Home Economics Bazaar

The Home Economics Department at Oda Senior High School (ODASCO) is redefining perceptions and inspiring students to embrace entrepreneurship through skill development.

In doing so, the department on May 8, 2025 organized its annual food bazaar and exhibition to provide a platform for its catering and fashion students to exhibit their innate abilities in the various fields.

At the event, there was an exhibition of both continental and local dishes prepared by the students of the school.

The event also showcased innovative projects, including fashion pieces crafted from recycled materials such as sacks and jute bags, highlighting the creativity and resourcefulness of the students.

Speaking at the event organized by the department, the Head of Department, Mavis Bekoe emphasized that the outdated notion of home economics being a course for underperforming students is long gone.

According to her, the program now boasts some of the brightest minds equipped with practical skills that prepare students to become entrepreneurs even before they graduate.

She urged parents to support their children who find themselves in the department, as they hold the key to the future, which is skill-oriented.

On his part, the Headmaster of the School, Eric Amoah commended the department’s efforts and urged them to continue nurturing their students’ talents.

He stressed the importance of commitment and skill acquisition, noting that these competencies could open doors to numerous opportunities in the future.

The Headmaster further indicated that the school is working towards being in category A as a long-term plan and believes such initiatives can push the school to become one of the best in Ghana.

He indicated that going forward, there will be more investments in the initiative to ensure that it attracts the needed attention as a means of projecting the school.

Eric Amoah used the opportunity to appeal to the general public and especially old students of the school, who he believes have contributed immensely to the development of the school, to continue their good works to ensure Oda Senior High School lives up to expectation.
