Greater Accra Minister refutes allegations of coercion during MCE vote

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has refuted claims that she pressured party members to reveal their votes during the confirmation of Felix Odartey Lamptey as the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

In an interview with Citi News, Ocloo described the allegations as “completely false,” asserting that no one was asked to disclose their votes throughout the confirmation process.

Ocloo explained that the first round of voting saw Lamptey’s rejection, but he was renominated and successfully confirmed in the second round.

She further emphasized that the media was present during both rounds of voting, and at no point did any member show or disclose their vote.

“It is not true. It is completely false… in the first round, he was rejected, and then he was renominated. Nobody showed their vote. The media was there, and not a single person showed their vote,” Ocloo said.

Addressing the allegations head-on, Ocloo also expressed her confidence in Lamptey’s leadership, stating, “We’re confident that the nominee is not going to disgrace or disappoint His Excellency the President.”

This statement comes as the confirmation process, which included multiple rounds of voting, was scrutinized by the public, with some questioning the transparency of the proceedings.

However, Ocloo’s denial underscores her belief that the process was conducted fairly and in line with democratic principles.
