He doesn’t spend cedis – Maurice Ampaw drags Sammy Gyamfi over viral dollar video

Ghanaian lawyer and social commentator Maurice Ampaw has fired fresh accusations at Sammy Gyamfi, acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, claiming that the country’s gold revenues are unsafe under his watch.
Ampaw’s remarks come in the wake of growing public outrage following the circulation of a viral video in which Sammy Gyamfi is seen spraying crisp dollar bills on self-styled evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Agradaa.
The video, which surfaced shortly after the 2024 general elections, has fueled conversations around transparency and the public conduct of high-ranking appointees.
Speaking on Wontumi Radio, Ampaw did not hold back. “Is our gold money safe under Sammy Gyamfi? No. He needs money to live opulent lifestyle,” he stated, suggesting that Gyamfi’s taste for luxury raises legitimate concerns about the handling of state resources.
“We are serious; this is not just about offering an apology. He doesn’t spend cedis, he is a dollar man… We need to know how he is making his money.
“This is called probity,” Ampaw insisted, calling for deeper scrutiny into Gyamfi’s financial dealings and how his lifestyle aligns with his income as a public servant.
In a more spiritual tone, Ampaw hinted at divine consequences, saying, “Stop saying I am sorry; it is God who is punishing you. There are more to come.”
The controversy has placed pressure on President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, with opposition voices and civil society groups demanding either Gyamfi’s interdiction or a thorough investigation into his conduct.
