Dollar gift not a crime—Hamza Adam rubbishes petition against Sammy Gyamfi

Hamza Adam has come out strongly in defense of NDC National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, over the recent petition calling for an investigation into a dollar gift he was seen giving to a woman in his car.
Describing the controversy as “an exercise in futility,” Hamza maintained that no law has been broken and that the uproar is merely a calculated effort by the NPP to target a key figure in the opposition party.
“This gentleman has violated no portion of the Foreign Exchange Act, and not even the NDC’s own code of conduct,” he said on Good Morning Ghana monitored by MyNewsGH.
He went further to explain that the act occurred in Sammy Gyamfi’s private space, without his knowledge of being recorded, and criticized the intrusion.
“He was in his car—his private space—and had no idea he was being filmed. But because we are a party grounded in grassroots values, we acknowledged the optics and he issued a public apology,” Hamza noted.
He called out the NPP’s “hypocrisy,” questioning why similar or worse incidents under their watch—including major corruption scandals involving ministers and presidential appointees—didn’t attract the same level of outrage or petitions.
Hamza ended with a message of readiness: “Many more petitions will be filed—ours included. The days ahead will separate those truly interested in accountability from those only seeking revenge disguised as justice.”
