Young woman dies after visiting TikTok friend

Brenda was full of life when she left home to meet someone she had just connected with on TikTok.

The young woman had been chatting with a user known as Emmypounds for only three days before deciding to spend the night at his apartment along Jakpa Road in Warri, Delta State.

She never made it back. Days passed, and her phone went silent. Her friends and family grew anxious. One of her close friends, who had access to Brenda’s TikTok chats through another device, discovered where she had gone and quickly raised the alarm.

When Brenda was finally located, she was a shadow of the person they knew—unconscious, bruised, wearing adult diapers, and unable to speak. Her condition was critical. She never got the chance to tell her side of the story. She died shortly after.

The man she went to visit, Emmypounds, told the police she had fallen ill in the middle of the night and was rushed to the hospital. He claimed they had both slept in the same room and that he woke up to find her in distress.

Police detained Emmypounds after he too showed signs of illness, allegedly from inhaling generator fumes—a possible cause of Brenda’s death, according to preliminary investigations.

Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the case is not currently being treated as murder. However, investigations are ongoing.
