NPP’s best chance is 2028, unity is non-negotiable

Former Subin MP and NPP stalwart Eugene Boakye Antwi emphasized the urgent need for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2028 general elections In a recent Metro TV Good Morning” interview monitored by MyNewsGh.
According to him, the party stands a better chance in 2028 than in 2032 because President Nana Akufo-Addo—affectionately called “John Mama”—will be completing his final term and unable to run again, leaving a vacuum for a new candidate.
“The MP stands a better chance in 2028 than in 2032 because John Mama is in his final third. He will not run again, so they will be producing a new candidate. If you cannot take advantage of that to win in 2028, we will be in serious trouble,” Boakye Antwi cautioned.
The host questioned whether the party’s history of 8-year cycles in power contradicts this urgency, citing that NPP won in 2012 as well.
Eugene responded, “That’s not what the record shows, but evidence was presented in court. It is possible to win after first terms, but the dynamics have drastically changed.”
He pointed out the shifting political landscape, noting how regions once considered NPP strongholds like Western and Bono have lost seats dramatically, and even Ashanti is seeing a shift.
“We must move with the times, and the only way to do that is through unity and a sense of purpose,” he stressed.
