Bongo NHIA District Director killed and set ablaze by assailants

The Upper East Region has been dealt a blow after the District Director for the National Health Insurance Authority for Bongo, Mahamadu Seidu Akugri, was shot and set ablaze.
Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio is reporting that the incident occurred on the evening of Monday, May 19, between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m when Mr Akugri was returning home from Bolgatanga.
The assailants, who are yet to be identified, shot him and set his vehicle ablaze.
The killing has been condemned by the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga who has condemned killing of the Bongo NHIA District Director.
In a strongly worded statement he said “I hereby condemn, in no uncertain terms, the shooting, killing and burning of the body of Mahamadu Seidu Akugri… My heartfelt condolences to the family of my late comrade,” urging law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“I urge all to remain calm and focus on the ongoing efforts led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku situation,” Ayariga added, making reference to broader regional security concerns.
Meanwhile, the Police is yet to issue a statement on the incident as it is also not clear the reason for the attack on him.
