GMet forecasts cloudy skies and evening thunderstorms across Ghana

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a 24-hour weather forecast indicating mostly cloudy conditions and potential rainfall across various parts of the country today, with thunderstorms expected later in the day.

According to the forecast, the southern half of Ghana—including the coastal, forest, and mountainous areas—is expected to wake up to cloudy skies with patches of mist or fog, particularly during the early morning hours. Isolated rain showers are likely in some coastal and inland locations.

As the day progresses, the southern parts will remain largely cloudy with occasional sunshine. In contrast, the northern half of the country is expected to experience predominantly sunny weather during the daytime.

However, from the late afternoon into the evening, localized thunderstorms and rain showers are expected to develop in parts of the coastal, middle, transitional, and northern zones.

City-specific forecasts show that:

  • Accra, Kasoa, and Cape Coast may see morning rain with a 30–40% chance of thunderstorms in the evening.
  • Takoradi and Axim are also likely to experience scattered thunderstorms throughout the day.
  • Koforidua, Ho, and Akim Oda are forecasted to begin the day with mist or cloudy conditions, transitioning into thunderstorms by evening.
  • Kumasi and Sunyani are expected to have a partly cloudy morning with a 40% chance of thunderstorms later.
  • Northern cities like Yendi, Tamale, and Bolgatanga will see sunny conditions during the day, but thunderstorms could develop in the evening with up to a 40% probability.

GMet has also warned that the state of the sea is rough, and mariners and coastal communities are advised to take caution.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with weather alerts, especially those in areas prone to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
