I was very worried – Agnes Lartey reveals impact of late swearing-in incident

The Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has opened up about the emotional impact of the controversy surrounding her late arrival at the 2025 swearing-in ceremony.

In an exclusive interview on JoyNews’ Personality Profile aired Friday, May 23, Dr. Lartey described how the public scrutiny affected her deeply, revealing a side of herself rarely seen by the public.

“It did break me,” she confessed. “I’ve always been an introvert, not one to crave the spotlight. I’m also very sensitive, not the type to intentionally seek unnecessary attention.”

The incident thrust her into the center of national attention, and she admitted the experience was difficult to bear.

“If I said it didn’t affect me, I’d be lying. I was worried, very worried—especially about people who knew me.”

The Minister revealed how she grappled with self-questioning, wondering what she could have done to avoid the situation.

“I kept asking myself what I could have done to prevent the situation. I don’t like too many excuses. If you couldn’t do it, you couldn’t do it. The more you explain, the murkier it gets.”
